Reliable Resources
Despite the Internet noise, fundraising letters from activists, and
high-ticket lawsuits, it is not difficult to find accurate information
about Lyme disease. Most state health departments provide free
brochures or direct online information. Good sources include:
* U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
* National Institute of Arthritis and Infectious Diseases (NIAID):
(See brochures.)
* FDA advice on interpretation of Lyme antibody testing.
* The Lyme Disease Network: Contains a search index of
medical/scientific abstracts, the archived LymeNet Newsletter
(available by e-mail subscription), a comprehensive state-by-state list
of support groups and other Lyme organizations, and a threaded
discussion site.
* American Lyme Disease Foundation (ALDF): News and other
information on tick-borne diseases, methods for avoiding ticks, "tick
activity index" and an email newsletter. Its information has been
reviewed, approved and partially funded by the Centers for Disease
Control."
* University of Rhode Island's Tick Research Laboratory
* University of Connecticut: Educational materials for teachers
* American College of Physicians: Treatment guidelines
* Washington State Physicians: Treatment guidelines
* CliniWeb: Treatment guidelines
* Aetna Coverage Policy Bulletin 0215: Lyme Disease
