Is it Lyme or Lupus?

My girlfriend has been taking heavy doses of Antibiotics for the treatment of Lyme disease for 4 years now and is begining to have damage to her liver. I have been doing research and found that her symptoms also match those of Lupus.

Does anyone have any information regarding a relationship btwn the two diseases? I read that a false positive may come up for syphlis if one has lupus. Lyme is in the same family of bacteria as syphilis and was wondering if she may have been mis-diagnosed.

She apparently was tested for lupus years ago and it came back negative, but am wondering if there is a possibility she has lupus. Any advice on what I should look for or how I can determine what is going on would be appreciated.

Also, now that she has to pull off anticiotics, any advice on other methods of treatment?
