David Weld was the epitome of the modern outdoorsman. An inveterate
trout fisherman and hunter, he was also a conservationist, a
naturalist, a biologist and an educator. He was the first Executive
Director of the Lower Hudson Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, an
active, life-long member of Ducks Unlimited, and a beloved Middle
School science teacher. He was one of the founding members, and the
first and only Executive Director of the American Lyme Disease
Foundation, a 501c3 tax exempt organization dedicated to providing
accurate information to the public on Lyme disease. David dedicated
the last seventeen years of his life battling misconceptions,
misinformation and the medical mistreatment of Lyme disease, as it
spread from Connecticut to New York and became the most prevalent
vector-borne disease in the country. The ALDF is widely respected by
researchers, physicians, legislators, news organizations and the many
patients and sufferers of this pervasive tick-borne disease. The
Foundation's website, www.aldf.com, was recently cited in The
Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal as the most accurate Lyme disease
website on the internet.
David Weld cannot be replaced, but his accomplishments can be
preserved. The Board of Directors of the American Lyme Disease
Foundation is committed to continuing the fight against Lyme disease
and other tick-borne diseases. With the assistance of the
Foundation's esteemed Scientific Advisory Board, the ALDF website
will be improved and expanded to preserve the Foundation's role as a
source for accurate information on Lyme disease. The valuable and
informative brochures and tick identification cards that David designed
will be reproduced and distributed online. Interactive services for
geographic risk assessment and physician referrals will be provided on
the website, as well as online access to the latest information from
the medical and scientific journals.
Pleased join the Board in remembering David and preserving his legacy
by supporting the continuing efforts of ALDF. Contributions will be
recorded and recognized, and will insure the future of the American
Lyme Disease Foundation
