children are more prone to being infected because they have a tendency
to play outside and stray into tick infested areas...also, they have
less awareness of the dangers of ticks, and may not spend time to check
themselves. the nymphs are hard enough to spot for an adult who knows
what to look for.
the phenomenon you describe, munchausen's syndrome by proxy, is
historically a very rare disorder.
