one point, though, is that while the mcsweegans and steeres and durland
fishes of the world can advocate or color their advice in a certain
direction, they are not the ones responsible for the government's
policy toward infectious disease. these decisions are made at a higher
level. Mcsweegan was just an administrator, a part of a much bigger
machine. It's not like he was sitting around his office one day and
called the CDC and told them what he wanted them to do. It's far more
likely that it was the other way around. you can blast steere for what
he writes, but people such as david dennis bear the responsibility,
IMO. The federal government has the power through CDC and NIH to
control the direction of research, also to advocate to congress and the
executive branch. A zoonotic disease endemic to economically crucial
areas of the country, the bullseye should be on dennis. Mcsweegan's
behavior has been atrocious, but he does have the right to espouse his
own opinions.
I suspect that the situation has been manipulated in such a way that
all of these individuals avoid responsibility for their actions while
maintaining control of the situation. One weak point may be the CDC's
abdication of any scientific responsibility by relying on a private
organization, CSTE, for its scientific definitions. Of course CSTE is
dominated by EIS graduates. This is very circular and clever. David
Dennis appears to me to be the real crook here. I would like to see a
mandamus lawsuit aimed at this relationship, also a racketeering
lawsuit aimed at EIS and its private foundation.
these lawsuits may not succeed, but you might get far enough along to
where you obtain crucial information about what has gone on. You might
find that Bush I or Clinton were involved. You might find that
questions of national security are employed to prevent your lawsuit, or
to attempt to avoid a subpoena.
