where can I read this? I've assumed that steere was deeply affected by
his failure to succeed in music, and the corresponding incredible
success of itzhak perlman. people must be evaluated in the context of
how they experience reality. I'm sure having friends like perlman
drives an urge to be perceived as a 'star' in your own right. perhaps
that somehow helped drive an obsession with maintaining lyme disease as
an arthritic syndrome?

and maybe the reason steere failed as a researcher is the same reason
he failed as a violinist? the same reason he took 7 years to become
board certified in rheumatology post-fellowship?

misplaced motives.
