If you are under the impression that doctors read journals and
guidelines in the way that lawyers "read the law", you are sadly
mistaken. Doctors have more to do than sitting on their asses gleaning
the fine points. The ISDA guidelines are confusingly complex, and will
result in a lot of bad medicine.
I actually happen to agree to agree with you, there, Cod...and said so
in another post...that the things are so filled with exceptions and
caveats that they are virtually unintelligible.
Some "executive summary", huh?
But what I am trying to figure out here is whether the LDA has properly
interpreted the thing...and I am doubting that they have done so.
If the IDSA had really intended the very narrow and restrictive
diagnostic approach they claim...that an ELISA/Blot "trumps", or
over-rules any observations of clinical symptoms...then seems to me, at
least, what you are left with is pure serodiagnosis...diagnosis by
antibody response ALONE.
And that's surely NOT what was intended.
Besides, if you look at the "disclaimer" language...I can't see how
anyone could claim that physicians have had their "discretion"
removed...so what the LDA is saying can't be right.
But I think you are, right overall...most practitioners will think if
you don't confirm the ELISA...then you don't treat.
