I've been away so just scanned this thread and thought I'd weigh in.
Forgive me if what I say repeats what someone else has already said. I
saw one message by ldfighter I agreed with.
I instituted the policy of "no doctor names" on all the state groups I
set up. New members must agree to the guidelines when they join.
I don't think generally it is harmful JUST to mention a doctor's name
and his/her location. However once you allow this much, the line
becomes fuzzy and people will tend to mention more than the basics.
It is inconvenient to have to give info privately and it's true anyone
can lie about who they are. It is also true that dr's names are known
and insurance companies have treating profiles.
The reason I don't allow dr names is that patients discuss details of
treatments, dr comments, dr theories according to the patient's
understanding, and so forth. Over time, if we allowed dr names, it
would enable anyone to build up a profile on an LLMD that might
contain much incriminating evidence, if only hearsay evidence.
Patient 1 says, "Dr. X did so and so." Later on they say, "Dr. X said
so and so." Another patient chimes in, "Dr. X did this, too." Later,
someone else says, "Dr. X thinks...." Patients may not quite
understand what the doctor is doing or his/her rationale and may
misrepresent it.
The end result would be a profile that an enemy could use against Dr.
X. That is why I don't allow dr. initials, either. It doesn't take a
genius to put this together from a single website where they have
access to archives. An accumulation of information about Dr. X may
also inflame an aggrieved patient, a competitor, or a doctor who
disagrees with Dr. X's practice, and push him/her to deciding to file
a complaint with the medical board.
My policy is, and will remain, NO DR NAMES. If Dr. names are posted in
error, I make sure they are deleted if they contain any information
other than his/her location, which would be public knowledge. I don't
think private emails that go out are much of a problem. It would be
much harder to put those together to create a profile.
LDA does have a dr referral tool on their website for drs who wish to
be listed. Many do not wish to be Lyme patient magnets and do not want
their names listed anywhere.

No, Phyllis.
I agree, absolutely, that what goes on in ANY doctor's
office...whether "LLMD" or not...should NEVER be discussed on the
internet on open forums...
....but that just isn't what is being discussed here and your alleged
justification for this "policy" is considerably off the mark.
You are co-mingling different issues.
I can certainly refer someone to a particular doctor...with the simple
recommendation that he "helped me"...or say that I wouldn't advise
seeing so-and-so...without discussing openly why I suggest either. You
can fill in those sort of details via private e-mail, if you must.
And the secretive spy v. spy environment this creates probably is not
healthy, either and probably even hinders patients from being fully
informed as to their available health options.
Nonsense. Just silly foolishness.
