Lyme and Alcohol

I keep reading that alcohol is contraindicated for Lyme disease, but
damned if anyone says why. I do find my alcohol tolerance is down --
a glass and a half of wine is enough to feel. But why the total
proscription? I asked my pharmacist; he says that at that level it
doesn't counteract the doxycycline. Some other reason?
