Re: IDSA knows that chronic Lyme exists

In February 2007, Dr. Dattwyler was awarded a patent by the U.S.
government in which he wrote the following:

“Currently, Lyme Disease is treated with a range of antibiotics, e.g.,
tetracyclines, penicillin and cephalosporins.  However, such treatment
is not always successful in clearing the infection.  Treatment is often
delayed due to improper diagnosis with the deleterious effect that the
infection proceeds to a chronic condition, where treatment with
antibiotics is often not useful.  One of the factors contributing to
delayed treatment is the lack of effective diagnostic tools.” (29)

This is certainly interesting.

Following the link that you provided, however, the document appears to
be attributable to the USPTO.(US Patent and Trademark Office, who
appears to be the "author" involved).

Assuming, for the sake of argument, that the USPTO merely quoted the
application, it would still be unclear (to me, at least) if Dattwyler
ever saw this statement. Patent applications are prepared by
attorneys.

I think that you really would have to establish that Dattwyler was
somehow informed of that statement and approved it, before
legitimately attributing it to him.
