As opposed to cooked politics? Come now jealous one... take into account
the mammouth cost of obtaining a medical education (by the time I've paid
back my loans I'll have paid over a half million dollars for medical
school), the length of time to obtain a medical degree (last I checked the
average age of starting resident physicians was 28 years old), think of the
length of residency programs during which time we are paid just enough to
stay afloat (residencies from 3 to 7 years with most going at least 5 or 6
years when fellowship is included, many up to 8 years for
specialization).... think of those things and from a pure cost analysis,
physicians are not even close to being overpaid. Then you think of things
like massive malpractice insurance costs, ridiculous number of hours worked,
and prerequisite skills/knowledge/intelligence and physicians are underpaid.
Then think of the value of going to a person, who's life you are about to
put into his or her hands, and think of the quality of person, of education,
of training you hope that person has ... and this debate stops there.
Maybe you'd trust your colon being removed by the local voodoo doctor... I'd
want a highly trained expert.
