This one, yes. I mean, the overall level of corruption in France is not much
better. The guy who will probably become the next right wing president after
Chirac is the brother of the head in second of the biggest corporate
syndicate in the country. That alone tells of the overall level we're at...
Listening to the radio news (public or private) in the morning feels like
listening to radio Vichy, only in corporate version.
But this one did get shock value from not existing here. You only get
surprised at new forms of corruption.
> It rules the so called government for and by the people.
Same here, it's not US specific. The only difference is in scale. And in the
fact that the US government barely bothers to hide that anymore.
> It drives US industry to pollute and contaminate the population and its
food supply.
Same. Pollution level is raising to allarming rates, there *are* studies
linking it to increased death rates, but they prefer to let it run rather
than put a single restriction on factories or cars.
> It is simply business as usual. It is simply the "American way".
We live in a globalized world. It's the Corporate Way actually, and it is
worldwide. With more power comes the ability to do more evil, but having
less power doesn't mean you're less evil. I mean, just look at the current
government of Italy, the one of France or the former Spanish government or
Tony Blair. Do you think they're any better than Bush? Or are they just
doing less evil because they have less power?
I do believe that there is an American way, as was intended by the writers
of the Constitution, and emobodied by several American writers who fought
for their ideas or people who died for them. If the writers of the
Constitution could see what their dreams have become, they would probably
crawl back in their graves. If the Americans who died for that ideal on the
beaches of France could see what kind of wars Bush is now fighting, they
would feel ashamed. I have all but respect for the most of the ideas that
were written in that Constitution.
