My primary concern (in addition to the ecological concerns) with
organic bananas are the working conditions under which they are
produced. I know Chiquita has made some strides in that arena, but the
banana industry in general has been notorious for its poor working
conditions. I've spoken with the manager at my local health food
store, he says they cannot obtain fair trade bananas, due to lack of
supply, which is unfortunate.
Bananas are excellent, but I'm not sure they are a required part of my
diet.
