Why don't you consider ZCarb to be chocolate? Have you ever had any?
Are you saying that chocolate alone, without any sugar content, affects your
BG?

| Well done, you missed the point and went for the soundbite. I was not
| talking about giving up choc because of Atkins, but because of DM.
|
| I could respond by saying that I do not consider zcarb to be
| chocolate :)
|
| However, I was talking about DM BG management. Atkins is an extreme
| in the sense that you are restricted and have to start at 20 carbs.
| It is possible to have a reduced carb or low carb diet without
| atkins. Atkins requires the carbs to be limited to around the point
| of ketosis. DM is an altogether different prospect where the target
| is keeping BG in a manageable band. Ketosis is a side effect, rather
| than an objective.
|
| The other critial aspect of DM is exercise. On mornings when I get up
| and go straight to the gym I deliberately take on more carbs to get me
| through that session. After the session I will take on more carbs if
| I am dropping below my target level. If I were limited with carbs, I
| would not be able to take that decision to take finer control.
|
| This all started from someone talking about DM and not considering it
| their preferred method of BG control. Accusations have flown since
| about a lack of understanding of Atkins. I suggest that those making
| these comments have a lack of understanding of DM. It all depends on
| your viewpoint.
|
| When you have T2 diabetes and know what effect chocolate has on YOUR
| BG, then feel free to tell me I am wrong. Till then, please accept
| that those with DM may have a significantly differing view of low
| carbing than someone who does not have to take the myriad of critical
| factors into account.
