This is the kind of thing that is common on the internet and in books
by "experts" and "gurus." Almost all of it is based upon associations
or is epiphenomenal. Stressors, such as radiation and lipid
peroxidation (especially in a body saturated with omega 6 and/or 3
PUFAs), are the root cause. The other things come later. Avoiding any
major source of dietary polyunsaturates is a way of making your body
much more resistant to stress, but because of the false "essential
fatty acid" claim, many "experts" are telling people to eat substantial
and dangerous amounts. These oils have only been consumed in a refined
form and in large amounts within the last several decades. They used
to be used mainly in oil painting, because the susceptibility to free
radical degradation means that they "dry" quickly. In the body, this
means severe damage to vital biomolecules and dysfunction or cell death
(apoptosis).
