Have there been any tests of weight-loss diets?

It's not clear to me if it is the % fat in the diet or the fact that the
study ended up comparing people who lost weight with people who didn't.

The Harvard nurses study showed that the highest starch eaters (like the study of Mexican women) had the most breast cancer and the highest fat consumers had the least.
