Mr. Carter exhibits the same aggressive ignorance that he does when
those who have done actual research point out the gaping flaws in the
"HIV/AIDS" notion (I can't call it a hypothesis, because he and other
supporters have consistently refused to state it as such, as is
required of the scientific method).
In the studies he cites, there is no demonstration that saturated fatty
acids are getting oxidized, only that they may or may not appear to
inhibit markers of lipid peroxidation in very specific contexts. As I
have pointed out on this newsgroup on numerous occasions, if you feed
the animals a "normal" diet, they will have arachidonic acid in their
cells. Then if you give them a diet of no UFAs but some SFAs (such as
hydrogenated coconut oil), there will be a period when the cells
release the arachidonic acid, and if the diet is not rich in
antioxidants during this time, one would expect at least some markers
of lipid peroxidation to be higher than on a diet of mixed fatty acids.
The proper way to control for this is to fed the animals the
hydrogenated coconut oil until they no longer have arachidonic acid in
their cells, and then do the experiment as they did.
I have a strong feeling that all this is beyond Mr. Carter's
comprehension, but I'm sure he will feel compelled to respond, which is
fine, because he will most likely demonstrate more of his illustrious
ignorance.
