So many of todays foods are either too stale or too processed.

Were yesterday's foods so much better? No frig, no deep-freeze counter,
lots of salt and smoke for preserving foods...

They were not de-constituted and re-constituted as is milk, orange
juice, grains and most other pre-prepared or processed modern foods.
And yes there was lots of salt and salted foods.

I was in my teens in the 1970's. We ate fresh meat, fresh seafood and
fresh veggies with fresh whole milk. Hardly any grain products except
for bread and we did not make a meal of it. Pasta maybe once a month.
Soda pop was a real treat in that we only got it maybe once a month,
if we were lucky.

We've been eating fresh meats and salted meats and smoked meat etc,
pork, beef, chicken, innards and fat and all, for literally thousands
of years. Somehow something changed in the 1970's that started us
towards a tripling of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc.

Do you really think that something changed in the meats? Or would it
have to do with a 10% downwards trend in fat consumption and a 12%
increase in carb (mostly refined carb) consumption.

HFCS was introduced to our diets in the 1970's. Then, we were lucky(?)
to get one soda in a month, now every fridge has a half gallon
container or two in it. No fast food meal would be complete without a
half gallon jug of soda. Kids eat RTE cereals for breakfast and lunch.
Pizzas with inch thick crusts for supper. Mac and Cheese contains no
nutrition except for the butter you add to it, everything in it has
had its nutrition removed. margarine is more plastic than food and
contains no useful nutrition. Doughnuts contains no nutrition. Store
bought pre-made meals have had the nutrition cooked out of it. Fruits
and veggies sit in storage and transit for weeks and when you get it
it has most if not all of its vitamins.

Nothing that comes in a package with a food label can come close to
the nutrient value of fresh meats, fresh seafood, fresh veggies. Food
just like Mom used to make, from scratch. No canned or powdered soup
can replace real home made soup with bone broth and fresh veggies.

Fresh is the key. Variety means squat without fresh.
