Mark, you are the biggest troll I've run into in a while, comparing a
poster (an unpublished abstract) with a scientific paper in a medical
journal! However, because I know those authors up at Bastyr (a
naturopathic school) I'll comment back to you that I actually AGREE
with you. You need to have published reports now and again about the
fact that not many products actually make their label ingredient
claims . . .
Agreed!! And this is one area where many companies produce second rate
crap. Which is why we SHOULD have an FDA that actually does periodic
and systematic testing of foods, dietary supplements and drugs for
identity, potency and purity.
THAT is a great use of my tax money. Not simply being a rubber stamp
FDA too cozy with pharma.
However, there ARE products that have met other tests. And in the
meantime we're left with the rather limited and infrequent but
valuable surveys ofwww.consumerlab.com
They list a number of brands that flunked their test--and a number
that passed including Culturelle, Enzymatic Therapy, Jarrow, Kal
Acidophilus, Kyo-Dophilus, Nature Made, Nature's Sunshine, Nature's
Way, Nutravite, Probiotic Gut Buddies, and webber naturals.

George, I like those surveys as well, but you know that no one in the
business likes that company at all (ConsumerLab is a profit making
venture, not some kind of consumer reports) because they have this
deal that almost sounds like blackmail to the vendors. I don't want to
bad mouth them, because they are supposedly good people. But they sell
it to manufacturers in a way that is very distasteful. Anyway, it's a
shame that there isn't a Consumer Reports type, non-profit venture
that does this kind of testing for the good of society.
