Re: Will the "MattLB" types now admit they are wrong?

Hi Mike, long time no see. I was particularly interested in the exact
fish/flax/omega-3 oil doses people are taking because that's what I
think got me down cup of years back. In this respect you only provide
partial information because it's not clear how many grams are in your
capsules (I guess your dose is on a daily basis). But hopefully, as a
member of the MattLB crew, you have provided enough explanation of
your "natural" diet what has been called for as well.

From what I can tell you seem to be well protected form the negative
effects of the PUFA/omega-3 supplementation by:
1) EV olive oil antioxidants
2) keeping VitD levels high
3) restricting high GI carbs (many people consuming larger doses of
fish oil seem to do this, unfortunately I didn't)
4) red vine - if the French paradox is due to resveratrol and not
saturated fat
5) other antioxidants in cocoa, fruits, veg
6) indeed good genetics - you carry your mother's, not father's,
mitochondria
7) apparently no stressful life

Fish Oil: 2-4 capsules of Costco or Sams club. Duration about 10 years.
Cooking oils: limited to light olive oil; EV olive oil; canola oil; ratios
est ratios about 5:1:1 Duration: about eight years.
Vitamin D: 1000 to 4000 iu (depending on the season) Carlsons
Minerals: calcium and magnesium citrates. (soft water in our area)

Questions for Taka: 1 Will I be healthier on a minimal EFA diet

If you eliminate all the "EFA supplements" and refined cooking oils
like canola and take just as much omega-6 in the "natural foods" as
your body requires for maintenance (according to the level of physical
activity) I guess YES

2 How will I know?

If you have no health issues at present it may be difficult, though
you may fell more energy

3. Will Mead Oil help me regrow my hair?

Reducing AA in your body may reduce the manufacture of testosterone
(PMID: 12423359, 17207922) so technically speaking yes (given it's the
"male pattern baldness"). But unless there is an issue with prostate
I would rather keep testosterone high at the expense of hair, it's the
all-good hormone in contrary to the "nasty estrogens". If you have a
high conversion rate of T to DHT just burn it in some "serious
workout" adjusted for your age. I think there may be also an
autoimmunity issue in the scalp and in that case you should "thank"
your fish oil for the lost hair (omega-3 shifts Th1 to Th2 immune
response).

4: Is my reply to your request statistically significant? (n=1, self
reported, no control, un-randomized :-))

I am not doing a statistical study with flawed unrealistic models like
some "experts" prefer.

5 When should I make my "final" arrangements?

It doesn't have to be final if you sign up for something like
http://www.alcor.org/
It's worth not cutting the years from ones life by unnecessarily
unsaturating the cellular membranes and forcing the body (and the bugs
living in it) to deal with the stress imposed by food prone to lipid
peroxidation ...
