Six months ago, at my 1st blood test, my total cholesterol was 289.
After adjusting my diet & exercising more for three months, I
confidently took another cholesterol test. The result was 277. Hardly
a significant difference. The doctor recommended Pravachol, a statin
drug.
Yesterday, I read info, seemingly from good authorities, atwww.cholesterolscore.com
that niacin can lower my cholesterol as well as Pravachol.
Given the difference in cost, which is extreme, is it possible that
niacin could be anywhere as effective? Is niacin the equivalent of
snake-oil, or is it the best kept secret?
A nutritional amount of niacin won't lower your cholesterol enough.
You would need a prescription for a pharmacological dose.
What were the component levels of your cholesterol reading (HDL, LDL,
VLDL, etc.)?
You may have a genetic propensity to produce cholesterol and any
dietary change wouldn't be sufficient.
What does your diet consist of? Some people may have some suggestions
as to how you can improve your diet.
