Thank you Mark. I'll study this info. The Mayo Clinic web site has
6 citations but none for Herpes Simplex, as far as I can see.

I take broccoli and kale regularly. Will add some sprouts now.

Thanks again Mark.

I didn't mean to imply taking both broccoli
and Brussels sprouts together was necessary.
One or the other is effective by itself.
Whatever the anti-viral factor is, they both
contain it.

Understood.

I should also note that there seems to be
an anti-nutritional factor in broccoli,
Brussels sprouts, and a few other green
vegetables such as parsley. This factor
is destroyed by fully cooking these vegetables.

I rarely eat any of those families raw except purple cabbage.

Again, I have no idea what this factor is,
but I can tell you the symptom it produces
when I eat any of these vegetables raw.
I get a small crack adjacent to one or both
corners of my mouth (where the upper and
lower lips meet). The crack is outside of
my mouth, horizontal, a little more than
an eighth of an inch long. Often, it can
bleed. Megadoses (2 gm or more) of vitamin C
can help to minimize it, but only avoiding
these vegetables or cooking them thoroughly
can resolve it completely. I had this
condition for years, before I discovered it
was my practice of eating a head of parsley
every day (raw or barely cooked) that was
causing it.

The Mayo Clinic claims that a dry mouth (shortage of saliva)
can cause cracks at the corners of the mouth. I have
never experienced it. Those veggies you mention may have
some impact on your salivary glands.
