The fact that the test subjects were also supplementing with Beta-
Carotene (20 mg/d) makes the results of this study totally bogus.
The findings do NOT apply to the general population. "This effect was
restricted to participants who smoked heavily."
Further, "the most dramatic increase in tuberculosis risk by vitamin E
was restricted to a one-year period after the initiation of
supplementation."
"The researchers concluded that "the consumption of vitamin E
supplements by the general population should be discouraged because
there is evidence of harm for some people.'"
Sorry, but that ain't good enough for me because I happen to have a
brain. Furthermore, anybody who smokes is just plain stupid. And,
stupid people tend to get themselves killed.
And, I do not mind saying so.
