I just did a search and found a huge number of possible
chelators for Mg.
What would be the safest one for taking internally?
Many of my favorite foods are loaded with Mg.

Whole food sources tend to provide more magnesium
than calcium since the fiber prevents the absorption of
calcium more than magnesium.  For instance short-grain
white rice is much higher in calcium, while long-grain
brown rice is higher in magnesium.

If you're sure that you want to lower your magnesium status,
this site  www.acu-cell.com/acn2.html lists a number of Mg
antagonists, as well as supplements to avoid that increase
magnesium retention.
Just because parts of the population may be chronically low
in Mg doesn't mean that people don't exist who suffer from
magnesium overload, however it usually takes a professional
assessment to come to those conclusions, not guess work.

This is a very interesting site, altho he doesn't cite many sources.
Most, but not all of his info seems accurate.  For example, his DRI info is
not quite accurate (but not tremendously far off), his ref to brazil nuts
and Mg is accurate, but not wrt "fruits" in general.

His assessment of vit C is astute, altho his comment "500 mg/day of Vit C is
universally considered to be safe..." would not have been true until the DRI
recently came out with a 2,000 mg UL -- at least not in the medical
community -- go figger.

Some other stuff, like too much calcium lowering Vit D status does not seem
quite right, but overall this is a very thoughtful fellow (Dr. Ronald Roth,
an accupuncturist), with a site worth reading, for interesting alternative
perspectives, if nothing else.

I am too lazy to check the site. But high calcium intakes does
reduce amount of 1, 25 (OH)2 vitamin made by the kidney.
Since it is now known other tissues make the above activated
form in a paracrine/autocrine manner, the kidney generated
activated form may not be as important as once thought
keep level of the activated form at good levels.
There is an idea that too much calcium reduces the
1, 25 (OH)2 form which helps to prevent cancer. A
good levels of activated D help keep cells interconnected
and thus less about to take the next steps toward cancer.
A connected cell doesn't run wild multiplying and doing
a sort of Darwinian mode of degeneration to cancerous
specialisation.

The site is refreshingly non-commercial, altho he does seem to push his
notion of acu-cell analysis, but with no products page, or About link, etc.
I personally think these types of analyses are dicey, at best.

Plus the fact that causality itself is hard to determine.  For example, when
observing a high value of a metabolite or substance in conjunction with a
condition, it often is not clear at all if the substance in question was the
cause of the condition, or the response to the condition -- altho over- or
under-dosing in a variety of nutrients IS pretty clear.

It is a very dicey proposition to try to assert what TRUE individual
requirements of *anything* is.  Basically it is all narrowing down odds,
always with the possibility of good intentions backfiring.
