I think it is our job to make the client understand the need for the
increased rate. He is going to be saving a lot of money in other areas so
that the bottom line for him will be money saved, improved records, and
better efficiency. He can afford to pay us more and still save money. If I
could not get the client to sit down with me and work things out, I would
draft a letter giving the specific reasons for my rate increase. I frankly
did not want my client to know how much I make an hour when I am actually at
the computer, as I think he would feel it excessive, so I worked out a way
to still bill by the line, and to count those lines. Billing by the hour,
or by the dictated minute would be alternatives. I also did not want the
constraints of keeping track of my hours, as when working at home I may go
fold a dryer, do some food preparation, etc., and I didn't want to be forced
to keep track of every minute I was at the computer. I knew it wouldn't
work for me.

Now I've been on the system for 2 months I find things going easier and have
worked out a system that is efficient for me. Unless VR were to improve
vastly over what it is now, I have more job security with this office than
ever.
