Yes, they should treat the symptoms.

Some people feel that the disease can only be cured by removing Internet
Explorer, by using one of the following links for your version of Windows:

     http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html

The danger to remove Internet Explorer is that some sites, such as
Microsoft sites, may only work with Internet Explorer.
