It is a growing trend to start neutering as young as 6-8 weeks old. My 2 dogs
that I purchased from a very reputable breeder were neutered at 8 weeks of age.
They have been fine; in fact, have not even developed any male tendencies,
actually stand still to pee, no cocking the legs up, and are sweet as they can
be.
I was concerned too and started asking veterinarians and the vets that I had at
the time gave a hands up for this procedure saying that it actually was safer
to be done at an earlier age than to wait until 6 months, which used to be the
standard. You will still get arguments from some of the older vets, but I can
tell you that my little guys are fine and they are now 2. They are doing the
same for cats with the same good results.
