> SCREEN NAME (NAME OR NICKNAME)

Here I'm The Other Kim. Elsewhere I'm known by other names, but the one
I use most often is Kimmer.

Anaheim, CA, in the shadow of Disneyland.

> MARITAL STATUS:

Married.

> CHILDREN:

Three; 1 boy (almost 17), 2 girls (12 and 5)

Two cats, Stormy and Lilith. One snake, Rex (California kingsnake).

> EXPERIENCE:

Started learning/doing MT work 12 years ago and haven't looked back.

> WHAT TYPE OF MT TRAINING DID YOU HAVE OR ARE CURRENTLY GETTING?

I started out only doing vacation coverage for the woman who did the MT
work for my last employer. I spent many hours picking her brain when
first starting out, but I'm pretty much self-taught as concerns things
like terminology.

> DO YOU SPECIALIZE?

No, but lately I've gotten a lot of orthopedics work.

> BELONG TO AAMT OR OTHER MT ORGANIZATION?

Nope.

> NATIONAL YOU HAVE WORKED FOR IF YOU CARE TO IDENTIFY:

None.

> WHAT VERSION OF WP/WORD/OTHER DO YOU USE?

WP 8 and Word 97. Too cheap to upgrade <g>

> WHAT WORD EXPANDER, IF ANY, DO YOU USE?

None at present. Don't really need to yet, but I'm looking to start
using one just to make life easier.

> WHICH REFERENCE BOOKS DO YOU USE THE MOST?

My Stedman's word books and my drug book.

> OKAY, NOW DOWN TO THE NITTY GRITTY STUFF.
>
> DO YOU MUNCH AT YOUR DESK?

Sure do.

> HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU GAINED/LOSS SINCE YOU STARTED TRANSCRIBING?

Well, I've also been pregnant and living under a lot of stress in the
past 12 years, but I currently weigh about 40 pounds more than I did
when I started.

> WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED ATTIRE TO TRANSCRIBE IN?

In the mornings, my jammies. Now, jeans and t-shirt, and barefoot.

> DO YOU LIKE IT NOISY OR QUIET WHILE WORKING?

Depends on the time of day. If I get up early in the morning to finish
some work I like it quiet. During the days, I keep the TV in the next
room on to CNN for some low-level background noise.

> DO YOU WORK AT HOME OR ON-SITE SOMEWHERE?

Home, in a corner of my living room.

> WHAT DO YOU FIND ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF WORKING THE WAY YOU DO?

The big pro for me is flexibility of schedule. I don't work well when
told when to get the work done. I like to work for an hour or two, then
take a break, then work for another hour or two. Also, I'm home to take
my kids to and from school and activities, which is why I didn't bother
to look for another office job after I was fired from my last job as an
insurance biller (was let go for political reasons; it sure as Hel
wasn't for my job performance, as I had an 85% collection ratio).

Cons...the big one is the almost constant interruptions when I'm not the
only one home/awake. My kids are pretty good, but they do tend to
bother me for the slightest thing rather than figure it out for
themselves.

> IF YOU HADN'T DECIDED ON THIS CAREER, WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN YOUR DREAM
JOB?

Yipes...I probably would have gone back to school and gotten that
advanced degree to go work in microbiology or a forensic lab (which I
haven't ruled out entirely at this point in my life).

> LAST QUESTION: WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF IN
100 WORDS
> OR LESS?

Avid reader and compulsive book buyer. Obsessive
knitter/crocheter/cross stitcher. Heavy metal headbanger <g> Mom who
tries to do the right thing for her kids and, hopefully, is succeeding
well enough.
