The posted link doesn't work for some reason. It may be the author is
working on a revision, or documentation, which would be good, because
documentation is somewhat nonexistent at the moment, to say the least.

Here is where you can go to get it:
http://cgi29.plala.or.jp/~mozzarel/addon/firefox0_9/linkchecker/
Click on this file, linkchecker0_6_4.xpi
and it should install the latest version.

Then you will go insane trying to figure out how it works, or at least I
did, LOL.

Here's the secret. Go to Tools, Extensions and click on the Options for the
extension to set the options you want to use for your checks. Then in your
bookmarks list, right click on a folder and click on 'Check "Folder Name"'
to check the bookmarks inside just that folder or 'Check Parent Folder' to
check the Bookmark folder itself. Check Parent Folder will check all
subfolders as well if you have selected Check Bookmarks folders recursively.
If you have a truly huge bookmark collection, this may take quite a while,
so you may want to run it overnight.

When the checker has finished running, you will have an icon to the right of
each bookmark giving you its status. Note that a question mark means the
bookmark was found and is good, which is somewhat counterintuitive. The
whole list of icons and their meanings is given at the top of the option box
where you set your options before you ran the program. Note the program
does not delete bad links, just marks them for you. It will update/redirect
links if it can, though. Scrubbing the bad links from the list may be a
function that will appear in a later version - this is still in beta.
However, since a link will be marked as bad if the site cannot be reached
when the checker is running, it is probably a good idea to recheck the links
marked bad to be sure they really are bad before you delete them.
Personally, I think a log of all the bad links and their position in your
bookmark folder hierarchy, allowing you to do a quick check and edit, would
be a more useful addition than a scrubber function. Statistics on how many
links were updated and how many not found as well as the number of the link
being checked and the total number of links (bookmarks) will appear on the
bottom status bar of the Firefox browser as the checker runs, and the
updated and found count will remain until you shut the browser down. You can
use the browser while the checker runs in the background.
