NO reference material, NO spellcheck, NO foot pedal for voice files, NO
hot key to play voice files (only use of a mouse) ---

Absolutely not the way most MT's work.

Would I spend the money to take this test? No. Would I take the
current test for my own satisfaction to prove my abilities? No.

For clarification sake, I had the CMT credential. I was not
"grandfathered". I took the test when you needed a proctor and you took
the practicum portion. AAMT recommended you have 3 years experience in
critical care to pass that test. I had minimal critical care
experience, only limited specialty experience. No formal education, all
OTJ. Yes, I passed the exam. I was proud of myself at that time. Yes,
I maintained the CEC's for a long time. The Journal made it easy to
acquire CEC's -- they provided the answers to the multiple choice
segment available in every issue (that's 6 CEC's per year). If you
attended local, state, or national symposiums, you just had to prove
your body was there, you never had to guarantee you learned anything.
Check out some of the subjects listed at even the national level. Not
all of them are all that informative to doing an MT's job.

Did I ever obtain a job offer because I had CMT after my name? No. Did
I ever get a raise because I had CMT after my name? No. Did I ever
have a client who knew what CMT meant? No. When I explained what CMT
meant to a client, were they impressed? No and pretty much told me they
were not. The proof was in every day work performance, not in initials
after my name.

I personally know very few MTs who have been reimbursed for taking or
maintaining the CMT test/CECs.

Now, back to the current exam process. What is the point of an exam
that does not even slightly resemble an MT's normal working conditions?
I know we all use different platforms, but no foot pedal, no reference
materials. The irony is that if AAMT has done just one thing right in
all the years, it was to help get publishers to produce reference books.

And AAMT has justified this exam as moving forward? LOL
