It's been a long time since I raised creepy crawlies, but it does sound like
it is an egg sac. Hit up Google for spiders and the state you live in and
you'll probably find some kind of site showing pictures of poisonous and
nonpoisonous native varieties. You may be able to identify your screen door
visitor from that. There may even be a contact address on the page of
someone who would look at your picture for you. Or you might try the
biology department at a local college or university, if there is one near
you.
