I would say the same indeed applies here. One types messages to newsgroups
for publication. Admittedly the media is different and the audience
somewhat more restricted than that for many newspapers, but the difference
between off-the-cuff spoken reply and composition with deliberate intent
still applies. It's true many people give less consideration to e-mail,
instant messages, and newsgroup posts than they do to other compositions,
but the ability to consider what you are saying before you say it is still
there.
