I have start stop and I have pasted the supported file formats. When I can't
play a file I use the free version of awave audio to convert files to
wav...it supports just about everything.

The Start Stop plays all of the Standard .WAV, .MP3 and .WMA formats:

The Start Stop plays ALL of the Standard .WAV formats (approximately 20
"flavors")

ADPCM .WAV (popular for Courtroom recording systems)
