Karen,

If he/she is using the newer Sony handheld DV units it uses the LPEC codec
automatically--the older ones did used to use the ATRAC for voice and music.
But as Sheila said, the dictator can convert the file to .wav, mp3, etc. as
he/she uploads the files to the computer using the software that came with
the recorder...you might discuss this with the person so you don't have to
pull your hair out over it.
