I never heard of Beverly Hills, so not sure where it is. Basically the
Hurricane went ashore slightly North of the Palm Beaches. The surrounding
area is the worst area of damage, but the storm was literally
stalled--barely moving as it went across the state, exiting above Tampa
(still in the process of exiting, I think). Virtually the entire state has
been affected with damage decreasing above and below the actual path of the
storm, which crossed some of the same areas hit by Charlie. Category 1 and
2 storms do not do major structural damage to well-constructed buildings,
but the fact that it took more than 3 days to cross the state (which is not
that wide), dropping rain the whole time, has created problems and damage
not usually associated with a hurricane in those categories! They lowered
the hurricane warnings to Tropical Storm warnings this morning in
Miami-Dade, but added Hurricane warnings to the northwest coast and
panhandle. At the southern tip of the mainland, we really did not have bad
weather the first two days of the storm (though lost power), but today we
got slammed, as did the Keys. Fortunately not hurricane force, but a good
blow with a lot of rain, and they say it will continue some tomorrow. It
has been a hurricane unlike any other ever experience in the area. There is
terrible flooding, and lots of trees down, they said still 1.8 million
without power (we got ours back this afternoon--when the weather was at its
worst). Of course trailers are always vulnerable, and there is damage to
homes and other buildings, but it is spotty--not the total wreckage of a
higher-rated storm. There are now 2 deaths attributed to the storm, but
both from motor vehicle accidents.

And there is a powerful hurricane out in the Atlantic now, Ivan, following
along the same course.
