Oh - well I thought we were talking about only templates. I agree MTs
should be paid for expanded characters.

If I have a program that fills the patient demographics automatically
or puts in information automatically, I don't see why the MT feels she
ought to be paid for that when I'm the one who paid for the
programming to do it.

The ideal thing, of course, would be to do the fill and the formatting
post-transcription so the MT doesn't even see it. They don't have do
any formatting, formatting is more uniform and the additional
characters can contribute to the bottom line. I fought HealthScribe's
deduction of template characters because some of the section headings
in the template would be deleted if not dictated - that's totally
wrong. But I don't see anything wrong with adding characters to format
post transcription and charging the client for characters that weren't
paid an MT.
