For my son, it has been since he was 3 years old. He has been told to check
labels or have a grown-up check a label and when in doubt- just don't eat it.
Adults make mistakes. Not all adults read labels. If there is no label for
him to read (he was taught to check food labels by sight reading before he
could actually read) then he doesn't eat it. Plain and simple. Sure there
will be times when he will but I certainly wouldn't go around with frivilous
lawsuits. Now...if some teacher or cafeteria worker held him down while
cramming food he was allergic to in his mouth and held his nose so he had no
choice but to swallow to get air, then that would be another story. Yes,
allergies are a terrible thing. We suffer from them every day. We live with
them every day. We make adjustments every single day. I don't expect the
world to stop spinning because we are allergic to certain things.
