I can't speak for other religions, but as far as Christianity goes, that is
an extremely common misconception.
If that was true, then Jesus would not have needed to die in payment for our
sin. We could simply have gained entrance into heaven through being "nice."
Being "nice" is a response of gratitude and love over that sacrificial act,
but it is not what gains one entrance into heaven.
That is gained by belief and faith in the salvation *freely* offered by
Jesus.
ROM 9:32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by
works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone."
ROM 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace
would
no longer be grace.*
