I agree with your comments. We've had compatibility problems with CDs on three
OS. In other words, I burn a CD and nobody else can read them. The problem
seems to be that the computer doesn't close the CD out. It's kind of like the
computer prepares it, the CD, to be used again in the same computer only. The
only way we got around that problem was to buy an external Adaptec CD burner and
that closed the disk so others (well, not everyone depending on their equipment)
could use it. We've had that problem with documents and disks that only contain
pictures even if they are in common picture file formats. With the USB storage
devices, you just don't have those compatibility problems. The only thing is
the cost of the USB stick is so expensive compared to CDs. Last year I took
pictures of a tree plantation fire (mostly the dead trees after the fire), and
those pictures were needed by the owner for insurance/legal purposes. He
couldn't open the CD of my pictures of the fire (the Adaptec isn't compatible
with this computer, and my digital camera isn't compatible with the other
computer). There was no way in heck I was going to send him a stick because I'd
probably never get it back. Those things are just to expensive for stuff like
that.
