I used to archive files (for a fee) for one ortho account, and furnish him
with copies on CD. However, now I am working on remote for that office, and
I have absolutely no copy. I know he has automatic backups, and is very
cognitive of security and need for backup. One of my other clients I supply
a CD to each month with all that month's dictations. He keeps these on file
off the office premises. My other two clients do not request any backups,
and I doubt very much if they are adequately covered in the event of a
catastrophic event. It is interesting to note that the two clients who are
very cognitive of keeping backups were both in the center of Hurricane
Andrew 12 years ago, and did lose records, mostly to water damage. Maybe it
takes a catastrophic event to make them "wise up."
