Today's paper had a big article on how airline employees were trying to
make a point by calling in sick en masse over the holiday weekend, which
in turn pissed off consumers (who not only got stuck, but many are still
trying to track down their luggage) and now there's a burgeoning
movement to boycott airlines altogether and make a point in return about
how it's supposed to be all about the customer. I suspect things will
get more weird before they're done.
Of course, my son's planning a quick trip to NYC over this next
weekend--involving a "sick" day of his own Friday, which would be
totally screwed if he's got to call on Monday to say, "Gee. . . I'm
stuck up the East coast and don't know when they'll get me back to
Florida. . ." (Took him 2 years to get a job after college, and he's
been there a grand total of 3 months.)
