Actually, I enlisted. They just didn't give us any choice about
where we were stationed. They did have a thing we called a "dream
***" which we filled out during basic training, telling them where
we'd like to be stationed, but I don't think I've ever met anyone
who got what they asked for. Rumor was that it functioned just the
opposite, by telling them where not to send you.
