In my case, there was a choice. I'd just turned 18, my draft number
wasn't likely to be called, but I had no money for college and my
folks wanted me out of the house. Since the employment situation was
lousy at the time, it seemed the logical thing to do. In
retrospect, a mistake, but hindsight is always 20/20.
