Especially considering that anyone can switch from AOL at any time they want
to. And who wouldn't if that was the truth. Which brings you to the fact
that does AOL really want to lose money on taking a chance that people will
get so mad at it that they'll lose money from people canceling. If it's
going to the shop anyway, and facing a reformat (so the guy can make even
more money by taking *all* that time), why not just do a reformat and start
from scratch. That will almost always cure what ails a computer if all the
hardware is in fine shape. We have a few *experts* around here who are
always wanting to replace parts or upgrade or reformat when some of it can
be done at home by even some of the least comp literate people at times.
Case in point: My SIL took her comp to our local *expert* three times and he
finally told her her hard drive was bad and she should get a new computer.
He charged her $35 to tell her that, said he would replace her hard drive
for $150 or sell her a new computer for like $500. She called me and told
me. I told her bring the computer over here. I did find 8 bad sectors on her
hard drive, so at least that was truthful. I replaced her hard drive for
about $20 using Ebay and about 5 minutes of my time (not inlcuding reloading
software) and she was good to go. People are making a killing off others who
don't feel savvy enough to do it themselves.
