Macros, at least VisualBasic macros, are _hard_ to write. So are ShortHand
tcl scripts. InstantText commands are easy to write, but not very powerful.
Creating ActiveWords is a piece of cake, and you can do amazing things with
them. Go to www.activewords.com, get a free trial, then go to
www.productivitytalk.com and meet a group of real addicts, LOL. If you can
figure out how to do something using keyboard commands and/or the Run box,
you can write an ActiveWords "script," because you just enter the keystroke
sequences in the scripting window the same way you'd type them by hand.
Okay, okay, for automating a website search you need to copy the URL that
appears in the address bar after a search is run at that site and replace
the search term with a Ctrl+V to paste in varying terms, but that isn't
exactly brain surgery, particularly since you can copy sample scripts to
modify from Productivity Talk.
Once you've entered all the keystrokes for a script, you create a short form
describing what it does in either complete words or an abbreviated form. You
can then perform that series of keystrokes and resulting actions by typing
the short form followed by either a delimiter or a doublespace/function key
of your choice, depending on whether you want the short to launch the script
with or without confirmation after it's typed. The short will work when you
are in any program or no program at all.
