Agan, "their job" depends on the situation. Obviously, leaving a basic
term blank because they don't know it is lazy. Basic may be hard to
define, but any experienced MT knows it when they see it. Reminds me of
a situation on some old email group. The basic was something like _____
and hematocrit (where the blank was clearly hemoglobin). The MT was
irate when told that was basic knowledge. In the end she calmed down and
realized I (and others) were right.
I tend to be balky. I may go to the ends of the earth to find something
I have no reason to know (local or regional term or doc's name). If I
leave it blank because I feel I can't even get close enough on the S/l
or, worse, have tried reasonable approaches, then the MTSO jumps me for
not trying, we are going to have a serious issue if she doesn't back
down. It is NOT my job to know the name of every doctor in a facility
five states over, especially if they are not clearly spoken, first and
last name given, preferably a speciality, facility, or town. It's the
MTSO's responsibility to make sure her clients know they must be
specific. They don't. OTOH, I don't get "pinged" for not trying. A few
QA comments noting how easily they found it and I'll be looking elsewhere
