Jeanie, you have other dogs, so probably have experience and know this. I
really believe if you want a dog with a good temperament, besides doing the
common sense things of which you are probably aware, that socialization is
so important. Enroll him in an obedience class when he is old enough (the
class I am attending with my Saluki will not take dogs under 8
months--though I have already taught her the basics.) I know how to train
for basic obedience, but I think it just makes a big difference for them to
get out in a class and work with other dogs, and see they have to follow the
same rules! We have taken all our dogs to basic obedience for many
years--they learn a lot and so do I..

Good luck. I believe disposition is inherited, but it can also be molded
and made better or worse with handling. If parents have a good disposition
that is a good start!
