That can be a problem with Weimaraners - they think it is THEIR JOB to
decide who is a threat and who isn't - they think they are smarter than we
are (hell, they could be right).

With Herschel, it was my own daughter. We never did find out what was up
with that, but after she started dating the boy she later married, Herschel
wouldn't let her in the door. I had to stay up until she came home.

He wasn't playing and he meant it. He loved Neil (the boyfriend) and when
Robin was in college and Neil would come by for a visit, Herschel was out
the door wagging like crazy, bringing "presents" (sticks) and just being
adorable.

Once, Neil brought Robin home from the airport. His Jeep came over the hill
and down our driveway, parked in his usual place. Herschel busted out the
door wagging and barking ,when he suddenly stopped, crouched, and growled.
His eyes turned black and his hair stood on end. He heard her voice. I know
she was never mean to him. All we could ever decide is that she "made me
cry" by going to college (I was very sad) and he was mad about it.

She "loved him out of it" by reaching out and petting his head, and then
laying her cheek on top of his head (wow was that scary) but for a time, we
thought he had a brain tumor and we were going to have him put to sleep.
After that time, he no longer got to go to the car races or horse shows,
because the vet said he would always be a risk. I shudder to think of the
many, many Saturday nights we sat in the bleachers, surrounded by kids from
2 years old on up.
