LOL on the Martha Stewart. I didn't know that. Point is, this person was
warned strongly. Three small kids. She almost learned the hard way.
There are just some breeds that are prone. I believe Pit bulls are
included, but you will find owners who still swear their dogs are safe.
A cousin of DH's had one and apparently it went after the paper boy or
someone like that even after having been okay with them at some points.
Hard as it was, they had that dog put down.

I am very aware of the fact I have a German shepherd who is not
"friendly" immediately to strangers. Quite unlike the last two dogs
(both GS mixes though one was close to full GS). I never worried for a
minute about someone being bitten. My current dog WILL stop someone
coming into the house. She makes more noise than anything, but I would
certainly not tell someone to just try to come in here on their own.
Last two dogs would have directed them to the safe combiatination and
held the goody bag for cookies or just attention, including the GS that
weighed 90 plus pounds

Yet I have seen people with their own dogs allow a child to torment the
dog until it growls, etc. Drives me nuts.

A chihuahua could still take a good chunk off a nose or scar a face. My
dad has a plastic surgeon friend. I don't think he even cared to see us
face to face with the poodle we'd had for years and who had never ever
threatened us to bite. He'd seen too many cases of dog bite.
