I can speak to this from personal experience. If you are serious about
using this, DO NOT buy a cheap one. A number of years ago, I got one
that was around 700ish from Service Merchandise. Hated it. Not smooth,
etc. I took it back and wound up spending about 1700 bucks on a Tunturi
(not sure they make them anymore). I burned out that motor (under
warranty though and that wasn't my fault!). I went through one deck on
it and finally something electronic went that was not reasonable to fix.
Right now I've got one on loan from my BIL, I think a proform. I
haven't used it enough to get a feel for it's durability. However, I am
a serious walker when I get into it and to use it for a half hour to an
hour a day regularly when I'm using it for exercise is not uncommon. You
want it to be very smooth, i.e., you should easily be able to walk hands
free in a very normal stride.
You do need to make sure to pay attention to maintenance, which might
include waxing the deck regularly (parafin type wax) or whatever they
suggest, to keep it running smoothly. If I had the money, I'd buy a gym
quality machine.
